Sweet Poison

How the World's Most Popular Artificial Sweetener is Harming Us.

Janet Starr Hull

If your diet includes any sugar free drinks and foods then for the sake of your health you simply MUST read this book.

The 'Sweet Poison' referred to in the title of this book. is 'Aspartame' which is currently the most commonly used artificial sweetener. The companies that produce and market aspartame, as well as governmental bodies, assure us that this food additive is safe but countless numbers of people have experienced serious and life threatening conditions as a result of using it.

Janet Starr Hull's book is the story of her own journey from health to a serious illness (Graves Disease) and her recovery when she discovered the cause of her illness - aspartame poisoning. Not simple accepting that aspartame caused her illness, Janet went on to research in detail what aspartame is and how it affects the immune systems of those of us who ingest it. Her discoveries are presented in an accessible and easily understood fashion and I very much doubt that you will ever feel inclined to use aspartame again.

Janet's style is open and friendly, the book is based on her journal, and it draws you into her life and her research. You cannot help but feel her dismay and confusion as her previous good health begins to deteriorate. You can not help but empathise with her initial disbelief that the foods and drinks we buy in our shops contain poisons so toxic that in some cases they have been implicated in sudden deaths.

Like all of us she starts out doubting that this can be the case - after all if it is in the shops it is surely safe...

And like many of us when faced with doctor's shaking their heads and saying there's nothing wrong with us, she blamed herself.. "The symptoms were irritating as hell, but I continued to shrug them of as by-products of the life I'd chosen." These symptoms included severe headaches, weight gain, fatigue, hair loss and an irregular heartbeat.

Eventually, after an emergency hospital admission Janet is told she has Graves Disease (hyperactive thyroid). Cause unknown. Solution - destroy the thyroid gland and take medication for the rest of your life.

Thankfully she had the courage to trust her instinct and not agree to the course of action being suggested. Intent on finding the cause of her illness she makes the link between the onset of her symptoms and the time she began to use more aspartame laden products. With a change in diet and nutritional support she made a full recovery with no need for the invasive treatment suggested by the doctors.

I am glad that Janet outlines countless other stories as her situation is not unique. Many people have been, and are being, damaged by aspartame. What starts out as quest for better health and weight loss for some leads to a serious deterioration of health. Perhaps one of the biggest ironies of is that aspartame, used by many as aid to losing weight, actually stimulates cravings for carbohydrates and sugar leading, for some, to weight gain rather than weight loss.

Read this book and find out how a drug intended for the treatment of ulcers became the world's most used artificial sweetener and discover the truth about the research that has been carried out. You'll also learn about the constituents of aspartame is made of and what happens to these substances once they are in your body and how and why aspartame affects individuals differently.

This book cannot fail to impact on your life. If you or any of your loved ones use sugar free drinks and foods then please, for the sake of your physical and mental health, read this book.
