True Stories: Bill

"For the past 3 years I've been unwell - I first of all felt as if my 'battery had gone flat' and was unable to go back to work for almost 3 months.

I managed to return to work but it was a struggle with physical and mental fatigue always around and every morning when I woke up I thought 'if I could only have another couple of hours sleep I'll feel better', but of course that never worked.

My doctors tried various things - medication for anxiety and for depression, thyroxin for a under active thyroid and I attended counselling, relaxation and meditation sessions with little change.

I had tried to clean up my diet keeping to complex carbohydrates, low fat and sugar and as much fruit and vegetables as I could manage. Then I decided I couldn't face 2003 with the same lack of motivation and enjoyment so I read up everything I could find on food intolerance and printed Sharla's food diary from this site.

I'd understood you were often intolerant to the things you ate and liked most so I decided to start a "detox" on 2nd January. I cut out milk products completely as I had been having bio yoghurt every day for breakfast, cheese often for a snack or in a sandwich for lunch and a healthy cereal with milk in it for supper. I'd also occasionally binge on condensed milk!

This is 11 days later and having had no cows milk products I feel 100% better. It took about 4 or 5 days and I suddenly became awake again and have lots of energy, feel ready to face the day when I waken up and get pleasure for the first time in ages from doing little things like walking the dog or cooking something different which used to be a hassle and chore I'd rather avoid and have a sleep instead.

I understood milk could contribute to sinus and ear problems - which I've had - but I can't see what my doctor was eventually describing as chronic fatigue in the list of the usual symptoms. Anyway the proof of the pudding for me is in the NOT eating - that's if it contains milk products!"
