True Stories: Lois
"When walking and shopping the stores at the mall, I had a nasty dry throat cough, and stopped to buy some cough drops. The store I went in didn't have any, so I settled for Certs, and managed to finish the whole package off before I left the mall.
At home I became very ill with severe stomach cramping, watery diarrhoea and watery vomiting. I hadn't eaten anything that might have caused this, and so was baffled, thinking it might be a flu. I couldn't put even a tiny drop of water to my lips without it passing thru, one way or the other.
As luck would have it, while listening to the radio, the program told the story of a doctor at an AMA convention, who had become deathly ill, even to the point of hospital admission. With all his colleagues scratching their heads, it took a very long intensive questioning of the ill doctor to determine what had made him ill. He (like I did) had consumed some type of cough drops that contained Sorbitol, and thus it was agreed on by the consults, that this doctor was allergic to the Sorbitol.
They also solved the problem for me. I went to my jacket pocket and pulled out the one remaining Certs still in the wrapper, and lo and behold, there was Sorbitol listed in the ingredients. This was 20 yrs ago, and I still avoid Sorbitol at all costs."
