I discovered soy as the cause to my migraines after nearly 2 years of suffering.
Soy has long been revered as a health food but in the research I have done, I found that near
20% of the population have a reaction to it.
Some are typical reactions like to peanuts and that is why I missed it at first.
I do not swell nor does my throat close up but I first noticed it when drinking soy milk
smoothies. I would have fluid in my lugs and cough awhile till it worked through my system.
This was the only noticeable indication I had.
When my migraines began in 2000, I blamed them on perimenopause, along with a new sensitivity that I developed to fluorescent lights. With time, I noticed that my headaches were related to when I eat. It was protein bars that woke me up to soy again and so I eliminated known soy foods from my diet and began to have full weeks then months without migraines. I still on occasion would have headaches and knew I was missing something. The first discovery was my favorite condiment, Best Foods Mayo - made with soybean oil! So I eliminated that. Things got better but not completely right. I began to watch more carefully till I was down to eating just pork and water, (sounds weird but it was as best as I could do). I still found that I became physically weak and my eyes would ache and if I let it go, I would get the migraine. So I nearly tossed in the towel to perimenopause until I found that the garlic salt I was using to season the pork was made with soy!!!! So I eliminated that and am strong again and headache free. It seems that soy reacts with your hormones and thyroid and has caused many bizarre symptoms. |
